You absolutely need to know these new WhatsApp functions in 2024 Whether you use WhatsApp as an entrepreneur in your company or privately, WhatsApp has some new features in store for you. Since you liked our WhatsApp videos so much, in today’s episode we’re going to take a closer look at the 10 most useful new features of the latest WhatsApp update. From the long overdue function of being able to send media uncompressed or in high definition, to useful privacy settings that are particularly useful for you as an online retailer and entrepreneur if you work with sensitive customer data. Find out now what else WhatsApp has in store for you.
We use this WhatsApp version
Let’s start right away by working together to ensure that everyone is working with the same version. I am currently using WhatsApp version 2.24.2.71. Once you’ve done that, we’ll start with the first new function – sending pictures and videos in HD.
New WhatsApp functions 2024 - send pictures in HD
Most people already know that WhatsApp compresses media when it is sent, which becomes particularly clear when you zoom in on the image. However, if you now click on the camera symbol in a chat as usual and select your desired picture, the “HD” function will be displayed at the top of the bar. For this, however, the image must also be available in a large resolution on your cell phone. For example, if you choose a picture that was previously sent to you via WhatsApp, where the HD function was not yet active, it is only available in compressed form and therefore cannot be sent in HD. However, it works wonderfully with a picture that you have taken yourself with the camera app. This means that you can now switch from standard quality to HD.
New WhatsApp features 2024 - uncompressed videos and images
But unfortunately HD does not mean uncompressed. This becomes clear with videos. Instead of 4K, this means sending videos in HD Ready, i.e. 720p. However, if this is not enough for you, there is another function available. If you send pictures and videos as documents, you don’t have to use the preview view in the chat and can only send one file at a time, but you can send media with up to 2GB uncompressed.
Edit messages after sending
Another function helps immensely in stressful everyday working life. After all, WhatsApp is intended as a quick communication option, which means that mistakes can easily happen when typing. Until now, the only option left after sending a message was to delete it and rewrite it. However, a deleted message in the chat always looks dubious.
Most users will therefore be pleased to know that messages that have already been sent can still be corrected up to 15 minutes afterwards. All you have to do is click and hold on the message and go to Edit. The message is corrected and marked as “Edited”.
Forward images with text message
Let’s stay in the business context and assume that an image of a document is sent between colleagues. However, an essential note in text form is sent with the picture. If you wanted to forward this to other colleagues, you could forward the picture without any problems, but you had to copy the written message and attach it yourself. From now on, text messages can also be forwarded if you wish. If not, you can also delete it and add your own comment.

Do you want to coordinate appointments within the workforce or if a decision needs to be made, such as “Where are we going on Friday after work? – Indian, Italian or Greek? Then the new survey function within WhatsApp groups is suitable. As the survey creator, you can select whether multiple answer options are possible. Everyone in the group can then see what the current status is.

If you are out in the field and want to show your colleagues what the situation is like on site, the new video messaging function is ideal. Most people will already be familiar with the voice message function, which allows you to quickly record a voice memo directly in the chat. However, if you want to show something visually, you can now use the video message, provided you have activated it. You can do this by going to Settings, Chats and activating the toggle switch for “Video instant messages”. If you then go into a chat, you can now switch between audio and video memos and record them as usual.
Snapchat function now also available on WhatsApp
But what if it is very sensitive data that should only be viewed once in the best case, e.g. a password. Then you can use the self-deletion function known from Snapchat. Simply take a picture in the chat and select this symbol with the 1. This switches the photo to the single view. What is also new is that WhatsApp prevents screenshots from being taken, but this does not prevent the recipient from taking a photo with another device. So be aware of this.

However, if you want to delete the entire chat or its content after a certain period of time, for example, in order to prevent it from being deleted. To save memory, simply click on the name or number at the top and select Self-deleting messages. A desired time interval can now be set here. If you want to keep this interval for all newly created chats, you can also set this as the default message duration.
The Keep function
But what if a piece of information is particularly important to you and you absolutely want to keep it despite deletion? Then there is also a new function for this, namely the Keep function. This will be displayed to you if you click on the message for longer and, if you have decided to do so, will also be marked under the message with this bookmark symbol.

When it comes to security and privacy, however, there are other options, such as makes content inaccessible to other persons. Go back to the options for the specific chat by clicking on the name and select Block chat or activate the toggle switch here. Now this chat will be activated with your security procedure, such as Face ID secured. This means that the chat is primarily hidden and can then only be found under “Locked chats”, which in turn can only be viewed using Face ID.

If you want to extend the whole thing even more globally and set up a Face ID lock for the whole of WhatsApp, go to Settings, click on Privacy and activate the screen lock. Now no one can enter WhatsApp without your face.
