Difficult times lie behind us, but also ahead of us, due to the current Corona crisis. Many retailers are hit hard by the pandemic, because in the worst case scenario, you’re left with no revenue for months. In a situation like this, it’s important to realize that there can always be a Plan B. One way to make the most of it. Of course, some retailers are hit a little harder than others. Merchants who, for example, have not received any goods for months because they would come from China or merchants who have completely relied on Amazon FBA. The trend toward eCommerce has grown over the years, and local retailers in particular have felt it. The Corona crisis is accelerating this trend. For you, this means that you need a good strategy in multichannel
There are always ways to find an alternative. For example, like the catering industry, which has organized a delivery service on the fly. No one can foresee such a crisis. Nevertheless, it is possible to set up a multichannel strategy. Because buyers are still there, but they are shifting heavily towards online retail. The digital economy benefits – and so can you. For example, you could first start with an omnichannel strategy, meaning that you connect your brick-and-mortar retail with online retail. This makes it easier to get started in eCommerce multichannel and you don’t have to completely neglect your brick-and-mortar store, which you’ve certainly worked hard to build.
If you look at most eCommerce ERP systems, many also have a checkout and a variety of multichannel interfaces. The checkout enables precisely this connection between offline and online. A multichannel interface ties your ERP system to one or more marketplaces, so you can sell on multiple platforms at once. And by connecting to your ERP systems, you can synchronize all item data with the marketplaces. Although having a suitable system will help you get started in online trading, it is important to always have a strategy in place. An own online store is quickly created, but without suitable marketing, you will most likely not generate any sales at first.
It also makes sense to create the appropriate multichannel strategy with a professional eCommerce agency. Because here you get experts at your side who understand your request and know exactly how to successfully implement it thanks to existing experience. For example, if you are already selling on one marketplace and can only generate a few sales, just registering on other marketplaces will take several weeks. You can use these weeks wisely to already plan and initiate the next steps with experts. Also, not every system can handle multichannel, so you need an infrastructure that ensures this way.
JTL-Wawi, for example, is an enterprise resource planning system that can be connected to various marketplaces thanks to the Unicorn 2 middleware. In addition to big names like eBay and Amazon, but also real.de and check24, many international marketplaces such as Cdiscount and Ricardo.ch are also included. JTL-Wawi is free and the costs with Unicorn 2 are extremely manageable. This would be an opportunity, for example, to first get to know several marketplaces, possibly already generate reach and broadly position your product range. Logistics is another area where it pays to think multichannel. Systems like JTL, support the fulfillment network, so you’re not dependent on just one particular fulfillment.
