Instagram will focus on reels and messaging in 2022. In fact, Facebook Messenger will increasingly merge with Instagram Direct Messanger in the future. Therefore, in a video that Adam Mosseri shared on his Instagram account, he introduced some features of Facebook Messenger that the majority of users don’t know about yet. For Europe, Meta unfortunately disabled these features for now until they find a way to comply with privacy regulations. When the time comes, we will of course let you know.

Message Replies

The first feature introduced by the Head of Instagram is called Message Replies. Some of you may already know this feature from WhatsApp. The feature allows to reply directly to a specific message in the chat. Swiping a message to the right, the reply gets a marker that makes it easier to find the message in the chat. This feature makes the chat history clearer, especially when replying to a message that is further back in history.

Custom Emoji Reactions

The second feature that Mosseri introduces is called Custom Emoji Reactions. This feature enables a quick response to a specific message. To use it, you need to press with your finger on a message you want to respond to. Now a small window opens with some emojis. Pressing Plus opens a selection from which you can choose any available emoji. With the help of this feature, you can show even more clearly how you reacted to a certain message in the chat.

Polls/ Surveys

The third feature he introduces is called Polls. Polls is the English word for survey. This feature is especially helpful in group chats to schedule things easier, for example. If you want to use the feature, open a chat and go to Sticker and then Poll. Here you can ask a question and enter possible answers.

Animated Message Effects

The last feature Mosseri introduced is called Animated Message Effects. This enables animated reactions in a chat. If you type something like “Miss You” in the chat, you can press the magnifying glass on the left and Messenger will search for suitable animated responses.
