As an online retailer or entrepreneur, you are nowadays offered a large amount of different marketplaces to showcase and sell your products. Therefore, it is not always easy to choose. Each marketplace has its very own advantages and disadvantages and it mostly depends on what assortment of items you are offering. Are you in the do-it-yourself business? Or do you like to sell antiques? Do you come from the food sector, are you a retailer from the restaurant or hotel industry? Then you should definitely take a closer look at the METRO Marketplace. Surely you already know METRO as a brick-and-mortar store, but did you know that METRO has also been serving as a shopping portal since 2019 and has a wide online assortment?
Once you’ve found the right marketplace, it’s just as important to find a merchandise management system that allows you to connect the marketplace. As an online retailer, you surely know how important a well-functioning ERP system is. With the merchandise management of JTL, you get a powerful and uncomplicated system on one side that you can connect to METRO and many other marketplaces. You can also centrally manage and control all your business processes. Thanks to the interface to METRO Marketplace, you can easily use your item data in Wawi to list products on METRO. But how exactly must the data be maintained in JTL-Wawi in order to handle this process without any problems?
So if you use JTL and want to list on METRO, there are fields that need to be filled out correctly. You don’t need any in-depth technical knowledge for this, basically you only have to pay attention to a few things. Because Unicorn 2, a multichannel middleware, with which you can connect JTL-Wawi to METRO, handles many of the processes automatically for you. A middleware is a software for data exchange between 2 application programs. So in this case between METRO and JTL-Wawi. So if you already maintain your articles in your Wawi, Unicorn 2 will read them automatically. Depending on the category in which you want to list at METRO, different requirements are placed on the articles.
Most often, these requirements are legal circumstances. And for this, METRO uses various item attributes that you need to enter and fill in JTL-Wawi. At METRO, each retailer is assigned a fixed, unique identification number, the MID (METRO Idenfitication Number). If you use Unicorn 2, you don’t have to worry about that, because the middleware does all the work for you. In the background Unicorn 2 downloads the appropriate MID. If you have new items, Unicorn 2 will add them to the marketplace, then the MID will be assigned. Another term you should know as an online retailer is the GTIN. The Global Trade Item Number is a universal identification number for products. Maybe you still know the GTIN under its old name, the EAN. The GTIN can be used to label trading units.
Thanks to Unicorn 2, as a trader you no longer have to deal with attribute maintenance and can therefore concentrate on sales. Because the attributes are imported quite simply and are filled. The moment you decide which item belongs to which category, Unicorn 2 downloads the necessary attributes in the background. The only thing that remains to be done is to enter the appropriate value.
