How to use the hashtags on TikTok correctly

TikTok Hashtags - How are they different from Instagram hashtags?

Compared to other platforms, hashtags are used differently on TikTok, such as on Instagram. Hashtags here also have the task of being found more easily under a keyword, but since the algorithm on TikTok is relatively strong, most users here do not actively search for hashtags. The main purpose of hashtags on TikTok is to tell the algorithm who should see your content. Let’s take a closer look: There are three types of hashtags on Tiktok, which differ as follows:

  • Culture Tags: These are the hashtags that are used over several million times. This includes hashtags such as “#Foryou” or “#viral.” So the hashtags that are used the most
  • Featured Tags: When it comes to trends or challenges on TikTok, featured tags are used.
  • Niche Tags: these are the hashtags that are important for your profile and the niche you have chosen.

These 3 options are available

There are 3 ways you can use this:
The first is not to use hashtags. Yes, you read that right. The TikTok algorithm does not need hashtags to rank your content. So if you don’t give it hashtags, the algorithm will rank the content itself. In doing so, it shows these different users that you wouldn’t necessarily have always reached with hashtags. For this reason, sometimes a video works especially well. This may take some time, as the algorithm goes through several test phases with your video.

The second strategy for TikTok hashtags is to use at least 2 and at most 3 hashtags from each category. So you get into every area a little bit.

The third option is especially interesting for users who are already active in your niche. Uses 57 hashtags in this method. To do this, go to TikTok’s Discovery page and search for specific hashtags that are in the thousands for your niche. This will ensure that you are found by other users in your niche or users who are interested in your niche.

Also pay attention to the language of the TikTok hashtags used

The language you choose, i.e. a German or an English word for a hashtag, also has an impact on who sees your content. If you make videos mainly in German, then you should also use German hashtags. This way you will also be found by German users and you show the algorithm that it should preferentially show the content to German-speaking users. This is an important point, as content shown in the wrong region, where a different language is spoken, will have little success.

That's why you should also use local TikTok hashtags

If you have a regional business or business, then you should use local hashtags like your city or places nearby. This will also increase the likelihood that users from the surrounding area will be able to see your content. Of course, you can’t tell the algorithm where to show your video. But hashtags on TikTok mainly have the function of narrowing down the target audience. TikTok is a fast platform. Just as quickly as a video sometimes stops getting views, a hashtag can suddenly stop working. So it won’t work if you use the same hashtags on every post. Therefore, it is important to always keep an eye on the trends. One of the most used hashtags on TikTok is the #ForYou or #ForYou hashtag. This is used by users with the goal of going viral and getting on the “For You” page. But unfortunately, this does not work on TikTok. You do give the algorithm information about who should see your video through hashtags, but that doesn’t necessarily make it easier for you to get to the “For You” page.
