Twitter subscription model - What is Twitter Blue?

Since June, Twitter has introduced a new subscription feature intended for so-called “power users”. In other words, users who use Twitter very frequently. In Germany, we still have to be patient, because this is currently only being tested in Canada and Australia. For €2.40 in Canada and €2.80 in Australia, Twitter is now offering the “Twitter Blue” add-on. What this function can do, we show you now in 5 points.

The Twitter subscription model offers these two features

Point No.1 : There is a possibility to organize your own content, like saved content in bookmark folders. These folders are customizable and create individual categories to make content easier to find.
Point no.2 : Until now, a tweet could not be changed afterwards. The only option was to delete the tweet and rewrite it. With the “Undo Tweet” function, users have up to 30 seconds to undo their tweet. Users virtually preview the tweet before other users can see it. If errors are detected or something is forgotten, the tweet can be undone using the “Undo” button. This button is automatically displayed for all tweets, but can also be bypassed with a “Send now” button.

The Reader Mode / New Designs / Special Customer Support

Point No.3 : Twitter’s Reader Mode makes it easier to read long threads by turning them into easy-to-read texts. To do this, users can tap on a book icon, which will merge related tweets into a blog article. Item #4 : Twitter Blue subscribers get access to new customizable designs for their app. And point no.5 : Subscribers also get special customer support.

Twitter subscription model - The summary

With these 5 new options through a subscription, Twitter wants to try the experiment subscription model first. In this first phase, they are gathering as much knowledge as possible in order to expand the functions in the future. So it remains to be seen what the subscription offer will look like in a few months. Twitter also clarifies that normal usage will remain free. Since Twitter has so far earned its money only through advertisers who place their tweets as ads, there have long been discussions about a second source of revenue through a subscription model. Twitter Blue is expected to become this source of revenue in the future. However, there is no information on demand yet. It is therefore not yet certain whether the model will become established or whether the majority of users are not interested in such a model.
