YouTube Strike

What is it and what are you being striked for?

What is a YouTube Strike? – We will get to the bottom of this question in this YouTube tutorial and clarify the terms “Content Claim” / “Community Strike” / “Copyright Strike”. At what point is it copyright infringement and when are we talking about community guidelines infringement? See more in this video.

What are YouTube Strike?

Strikes are warnings that you can get on YouTube. On YouTube, there are two types of strikes that you need to distinguish. Once strikes for copyright infringement and strikes for community rights infringement. You get a strike for copyright infringement because, for example, you used music in your video for which you had no rights. Other examples may be that clips from other videos or well-known movies have been used, resulting in copyright infringement.

Community Strike vs. Copyright Strike

Strikes for community rights violations are given if you have violated the guidelines. YouTube has listed in its community guidelines exactly what kind of content is undesirable on the platform. The motto here is: Family Friendly. This means that if a video glorifies violence or shows sexual content, you will receive a warning for this content. You may be wondering if your videos have ever been restricted as well. To check it out, go to YouTube Creator Studio and then Videos. Now select copyright infringement complaints in the filter at the top. Once you’ve done that, YouTube will show you exactly which videos have been restricted. A restriction can mean several things.

What happens in the event of a violation?

For example, with community trikes, some videos will stop monetization first. In that case, the video will still be tolerated on YouTube, but YouTube does not want to be an advertising partner for unwanted content. You can recognize this case by the fact that the monetization sign is no longer green, but yellow. However, in the event that you have not committed a violation, you can request a review from YouTube for the video. There is an additional special feature for the community trikes. YouTube first issues a warning, which has no consequences yet. However, if you repeat the violation, you will get the actual strike and the first consequences. These look like this: For one week, no new videos can be uploaded to the platform and no live streams and stories can be created. Also, community posts can no longer be shared and playlists can no longer be created or edited.

YouTube Strike - When will the account be suspended?

The strike remains in place for 90 days, even if the consequences are only for one week. If you do not commit any further violations in those 90 days, then the strike will expire. If you commit a violation again, you will get a second strike. All episodes of the first strike are then valid for double the time, i.e. for two weeks. The second strike remains active again for 90 days. If you commit another violation within these 90 days, you will get the last and third strike, which will delete the channel. For copyright violations, the whole thing works similarly, but here you get the first time directly a strike and no custody. Again, three strikes will result in the account being deleted.
