Goodbye Instagram TV

From now on it’s “Goodbye Instagram TV”. Why there will be no more IGTV, what is“Instagram Video” instead and how this new video feature works, we show you in this Instagram tutorial.

Instagram Video - Fusion of IGTV and In-Feed Videos

Instagram declares the end of IGTV and scraps the format. But the platform promises that long-format videos will still be available. There are now many different types of content on Instagram. Videos can be shared on the platform as story, reel, IGTV and in-feed videos. For longer videos, there was often confusion among users because the difference between IGTV and in-feed videos was not made clearly visible. Instagram itself now announced in a blog post that they plan to replace the two formats with a new feature called Instagram Video.

The Instagram Video Features

In their blog post, they wrote: “Starting today, we’re combining IGTV and feed videos into one format – Instagram Video. We’re also introducing a new video tab on your profile that features this combined video format to make it easier for people to discover new video content.” The new format should make it easier to put longer videos on the platform, but also to discover long-format videos. The way videos are uploaded does not change in the process. Furthermore, videos are uploaded as usual by clicking on the plus icon in the right corner. With the new format also comes new features for Instagram Video. For example, it should be possible to trim videos before posting them in the app and edit them with filters. Additionally, other users in the video can be tagged and the location where the video was created can be added. Instagram videos can now be up to 60 minutes long and posted directly to the feed. The preview in the feed remains and is 60 seconds long. However, when the video is used as an ad, the preview is only 15 seconds long.

Can the new format also be posted in the story?

After posting, Instagram videos can be shared with friends and followers as usual in Stories and via Direct Message. Instagram is also introducing a new button under which Instagram videos will be found. In the profile this will be next to the Reels tab. When watching the video, the full screen mode can then be activated by simply tapping anywhere on the video. Additionally, a scrolling option will also be introduced as it is already available on Instagram Reels. If you scroll up while watching, more and more similar videos are displayed.
