How to become an influencer on Instagram, we explain in this Instagram tutorial. This word is once again an Anglicism, i.e. a term originating from the English-speaking world that has become Germanized. “To Influence” means “to influence”. This means that influencers have an influencing effect, whether intentional or not is irrelevant. Who do they have this on? Exactly, to their community. That is, the people who follow that person. Accordingly, the influencer’s content influences their opinions and consumption habits. So in a way, it’s a new form of advertising.
And when does advertising make sense in the first place? Right, if it reaches a lot of people.
So let’s hold on: Influencers are people who, due to a large number of followers, can have an influence on the opinions and consumption habits of users on social networks such as Instagram and YouTube. What constitutes a large number is not precisely defined and varies greatly from industry to industry.
The daily activities of these opinion leaders include, for example, publishing content about hobbies, their knowledge, about their daily lives, and opinions on specific topics. The influencers’ everyday lifestyle is then followed, used as inspiration and supported by interested individuals. The influencer is given a certain power by this trust of his followers, which includes experiences and recommendations about products.
This power has accordingly become a certain currency in the age of Instagram, TikTok and Co. Influencers use their currency and exchange it for financial resources or products, so to speak, which is then broadly called influencer marketing. This means that the companies benefit from the reach as well as the recommendation of a legitimate person, i.e. the influencer, whose statements have a completely different status in the community than would be the case with classic advertising. On the other hand, of course, the influencer also benefits from this cooperation or product placement.
Now, one could compare the advantages and disadvantages of the respective sites, but this would go beyond the scope and might become part of a separate article. In summary, all that can be said on this point is that the advantages for the influencer are probably clear. You’re your own boss, developing new skills through the job beyond copywriting, images and videos, to SEO skills and sales psychology skills. With luck, you’ll meet a lot of new people and get to travel as a result. On the other hand, envy and resentment cannot be avoided above a certain size. The constant pressure to meet deadlines and create new content, the need to be creative at the push of a button, and the sheer impossibility of separating work and private life also reveal the downsides.
But if you are aware of the advantages but also the disadvantages, how do you become an influencer now?
The first thing you should do is find your own niche. If anything comes first, it’s passion. Because without it, you will unfortunately fail with a very high probability, because you will quickly run out of fun. Therefore, the first task before you even start is to listen to yourself and figure out what you’re on fire for. You should check which niche is not yet occupied or if you can find a subniche for an occupied niche. For the main topic of sports and fitness, this might not necessarily be soccer, but the related trend sport futsal. By doing so, you create something new and thereby increase the probability of becoming the number 1 in this sub-niche. This then also results in your target group, which you want to reach and address with your content. Be aware of the two points up front.
This also results in point 2 – your own style. You can start by looking at how others are doing on Instagram, but ultimately your own signature should be visible on your channel. Both in the style of your feed, whether photo-based, video-based, faded-look or yet very contrasty. There are no limits for you. Only if you have decided on a style, then follow it through and edit it, for example. your pictures in always the same style.
We had already addressed this point in a video before. We are talking about the hashtags. These exceed your own follower-based reach at the beginning partly by far. This means you can draw attention to yourself in the scene you are in. To return to our example. If the futsal scene is still too small, use hashtags that cover soccer. We noted how to sensibly build your 30 possible hashtags in the video we just mentioned.
The fourth point concerns continuity. Already a proverb said “Good things come to those who wait” and that is exactly the case here. Post regularly and tell your followers what you’re doing at the moment and what’s on your mind. When you give little glimpses into your mind, other users leave more likes and comments. At the same time, social media do not function through passivity, but also require mutual interaction. That means interact with other content creators, comment and like as well. All this is under the premise – regularity.
The fifth point may sound like a contradiction to you now, but it is not when you take a closer look. Because quality should come before quantity. Posting regularly doesn’t mean bombarding your followers with pictures every hour or two, or even more often. The quality of your pictures would also suffer. Three to a maximum of four posts a day is a good guideline. Once you’ve started, you’ll also have a basis for analysis, so that you can approach the matter in a calculating manner. Because posting blindly is amateurish. What I mean by that is: Use your insights to see which posts are resonating and at what time you should post to generate the most reach. The sixth and last point are basically two points summarized in one, namely authenticity and uniqueness. Don’t be a copy of someone else, people want to see real characters who have a USP to show and stand by it. USP means your unique selling proposition. What makes you special, what is it about you that makes you a unique individual?
Once you find that for you, follow through and go for it.
