In this video we look at how long you can deactivate a Facebook account:

For those who need a break from Facebook, the social network offers two options. So you can either delete your account or deactivate it. The second option, i.e. deactivating one’s Facebook account, means simply taking a time-out from Facebook. If you decide to do so, the following points are important:

  • First things first: you can reactivate your Facebook account at any time
  • If your account is deactivated, users will no longer be able to see your history and find you via search
  • If you manage Facebook pages, they will be disabled as well. If an account is deactivated, users will no longer be able to find or view the associated pages. In case you want your pages to remain activated even if you deactivate your account, you can also give someone else full control over them.

Overall, there is no indication or deadline from Facebook after which a deactivated account is deleted. So you can deactivate it only for a short time for a break from Facebook, but also for the long term and, as already mentioned, reactivate it at any time.

What actually happens to Facebook Messenger when an account is deactivated?

Even if you deactivate your Facebook account, you can keep Messenger. This must be deactivated separately. So if you want to continue using Messenger, you can simply leave it activated. However, in case you want to delete your account completely after some time, you will not be able to use Messenger afterwards either.

Reactivate profile

Now let’s take a look at how you can reactivate your Facebook account. This is made very easy for you by Facebook. Your account will be automatically reactivated by Facebook as soon as you log back into Facebook or another portal with your Facebook account. Other portals with which your Facebook account becomes active again when you log in are Spotify or Instagram, for example.

Data protection topic

By the way, deactivating a Facebook account is not a solution for data protection. Your data will only be deleted by Facebook when you also completely delete your Facebook account.
