Immersive feed on Instagram

On Instagram soon only vertical content in 9:16 ?

Immersive feed on Instagram – that’s what this video is about. Find out what an immersive feed is, why the profile grid might change because of it, and why the trend is moving more and more towards vertical content in this social media news episode.

Immersive feed on Instagram - What's it all about?

Once again, drastic changes on Instagram are on the horizon, which could also affect you as an online retailer, if you rely on Instagram as a marketing channel. Recently, a very clear trend could be seen, which was also transparently announced by Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri. This one goes something like this – videos before photos. It’s no coincidence that photographers now rely on a mix of behind-the-scenes video and final photo as an Instagram reel, instead of posting their photos as normal photo posts. I have also made the test and can say quite clearly, single photos are disadvantaged by the algorithm. Either you use the carousel or the reel format. Videos in 1:1 format also performed rather poorly. But what drastic changes await you now.

What does immersive mean?

It has already been reported recently that Instagram is thinking about an immersive home feed. In technical terms, this means you would get a vertical, swipeable home feed in 9:16 format. Broken down, that means Instagram is taking a cue from TikTok. Because an immersive home feed is exactly what TikTok uses. Instead of being able to scroll continuously, you swipe. Also, the 9:16 format would mean that the post would take up the entire feed instead of just part of the screen as it does now, since images, carousels and videos are still in 1:1 or 4:5 format so far. However, the consequential problem that arises from this is the square profile grid. This means that you can expect a change in your profile grid in the near future, so that one can accommodate the new format.

Immersive feed on Instagram - Is Instagram becoming TikTok 2.0?

The bottom line is that all content on Instagram is going vertical, which is what you should focus on in the future if you’re still posting image content. Because the disadvantage you would face if you don’t do that would just be a half-filled screen and thus less attention or a less aesthetic appearance that is perceived as inferior. What is your opinion on this? Is this the next logical step? Or should Instagram not follow TikTok too closely? Write it to us in the comments. Also, we’d be dying to know what your experience is with the reach of image content vs. Instagram reel content.
