Create PrestaShop article

How to create an article in PrestaShop

Learn how to create your first article in PrestaShop in today’s Screencast Tutorial episode. We explain to you what is important when creating a new product, how it becomes visible in the frontend and how it can also be found on Google, Bing and Co.

There you can create your PrestaShop article

Now that we have made the global settings for our products, we can get more specific and create our first article. We are in our backend and click on Catalog in the main Sales section and see our items here. Here you have an overview of your existing articles and can edit them with the pencil icon or use the context menu to duplicate, delete or preview them. We can create a new article here in the upper right corner.

We create our necklace as the first item in PrestaShop

We create a Dog Tag Halkette in our PrestaShop Screencast, which we can name accordingly here above under“Item Name“. Below you can insert several images of the product. Make sure you don’t just name the images by numbers as you see in the video, but also hyphenate your focus keywords in the name of your image file.

Configure item settings

You can define here if your article is a variant article. Is not given in our case, but an example would be a T-shirt that could be ordered in different sizes. The item number, quantity and price is self-explanatory and can be entered by you according to your product. When it comes to price, make sure you choose the right tax rate.
At the bottom of the page, the article can be assigned to a category. We now simply decide on Art, but we could also create our own category here in a hurry. I recommend you just to use and maintain the properties, which are also to be determined here, because according to these can then be filtered in your online store. This is what it looks like and makes it easier for your customers to search and improves the usability of your store.

When creating PrestaShop articles also pay attention to SEO

On this page, you now only need to fill in the short description and the main description. How this should be created to work search engine optimized you can learn in our PrestaShop SEO video.

Set shipping, price and SEO options when creating PrestaShop items

In addition, you should also fill in how the stock looks like, whether you want to receive a notification when the stock reaches a minimum value and if the product is not yet available, when it would be available. All entries that are set to Default thus follow the global settings. We see this for example also during shipping. If there are deviations, these can be entered, otherwise neglect. In the Prices tab you can make more specific price settings and in the penultimate tab you can take SEO measures. I would also definitely recommend this to you in order to get your articles out on Google, Bing and Co in the best possible way. The SERPs view makes it easier for you to see if your Meta Description or Meta Title would be truncated. Speaking URL’s that contain your focus keyword should also be used. More about SEO can be found in our PrestaShop SEO Tutorial. At the end, visibility settings can be made, i.e. where the item should be seen, keywords for the shop-internal search can be added and more detailed information about the condition can be entered. At the end, set the article toonline, make the final save and we can view it with the preview button in the frontend.
