Solopreneur

What is the difference between freelancer vs. entrepreneur vs. solopreneur?

What is a solopreneur? How does this differ from the freelancer or freelancer? We clarify where the differences lie and explain the concept of the solopreneur.

What is a solopreneur?

In this article we explain what a solopreneur is and where the differences are, for example, to a freelancer. The term is made up of the word “solo” and “entrepreneur”. A solopreneur is an entrepreneur who acts alone and usually conducts business online. At the same time, he runs a one-man business in which he is the only employee. This type of business emerged mainly due to the increasing spread and development of the Internet. Solopreneurs are thus not fixed to a fixed location and also rarely have an office. This location independence is often used by them to work around the world and travel extensively. In contrast to the U.S., the term is still relatively unknown here in Germany, even though the concept is not new.

The features

A typical characteristic of a solopreneur is that they focus on the simplest possible structure, adaptability and ease of implementation of business models. Their business model is often the basis of their own life model. Or to put it another way: the business model is the life model. However, solo does not necessarily mean that solopreneurs always implemented everything completely alone. On the contrary, because even if they are lone wolves from a legal point of view, these are often very well networked as entrepreneurs. Thus, tasks are often also handed over to external employees or freelancers, although they retain full freedom of decision.

Advantages of a solopreneur

Often, solopreneurs design their own businesses to scale easily. For example, knowledge is not taught in individual lessons, but in online courses or books, which can be sold indefinitely. What is the difference between a solopreneur and a self-employed person? This focuses in particular on business processes that can be optimized and automated again and again. Self-employed and freelancers, on the other hand, often work for clients on individual projects. They work for a fee on a contract basis or are paid for their projects. This can only increase the workload to a limited extent, as only a limited number of orders can be accepted.

Summary

So they try to automate processes in such a way that they make money even when they themselves are busy doing other things. That’s why your focus is often on digital products, although many of you also take individual orders in addition. The transition from freelancer or self-employed to solopreneur is often fluid for this reason. Many self-employed people also opt for a mixed form.
