Transfer WhatsApp chat history from iOS to Android - This is how it works
Many know the problem. You buy a new smartphone and can’t transfer your data from WhatsApp to the new device because of the switch from iOS to Android or vice versa. Many important chat progressions often have to be abandoned for this reason. Some users even go into flight mode on their old device just to be able to keep the old history. Now there should finally be a solution for the switch from iOS to Android. In August this year, Samsung and WhatsApp announced the possibility of transferring chat histories between iOS and Samsung models. Now Google is following suit: Chat histories from iPhones can now be transferred to all Pixel models with Android 12. Google is currently expanding the list of compatible models for this.
What you need for the transfer
Google worked closely with WhatsApp for the new feature to make users’ old voicemails, videos and photos accessible on their new devices. However, a USB-C to Lightning cable is required to transfer the data, which is supposed to make the transfer very easy. Chat histories can thus take place as soon as you set up a new Android device, because after you connect a new Android smartphone to your old iPhone, you’ll be prompted to scan a QR code with your iPhone to start the transfer process. During the transfer, all personal data remains protected. The new transfer feature is initially only available for Samsung Galaxy devices and on all Pixel smartphones. For older devices, an update to Android 12 is necessary. New devices are already sold with Android 12.
WhatsApp chat history from Android to iOS possible?
Unfortunately, the process does not yet work the other way around, i.e. from an Android device to an iPhone. However, WhatsApp states in their FAQs that they are working on a solution for this issue. However, it is currently not known how long this will take. For those switching from your iPhone to an Android device, however, this is good news.
