Reply to comments with videos: What has been possible on TikTok for a long time, Instagram has now also brought out for Reels. The new Instagram Reels Visual Replies is now available, allowing users to reply to comments via reel. Instagram hereby promotes its short video format once again.

Instagram is rolling out a new feature that many users have been waiting for a very long time after a long testing period. The new Reels Visual Replies feature allows users to reply to comments with a reel. Officially, Instagram announced the new feature via Twitter. There they wrote: “We love the communities Creator has built on Instagram. That’s why we’re excited to introduce Reel’s Visual Replies, a new feature to interact with your audience. You can now reply to comments with reels, whereupon the comment will appear as a sticker in the reel.”

TikTok feature now also on Instagram

Maybe the new function looks familiar to some of you. Instagram is known for taking inspiration from their competitors and when it comes to short videos, TikTok is their role model. A similar function has been available there since June 2020. However, Instagram has expanded the feature a bit more. While on TikTok you can only respond to comments under videos with a video reply, on Instagram you can also respond to a comment under a regular post with a reel. To reply to a comment, tap reply and then see the Reels icon on the left side of the text box. Tap on it and create a Reels reply to this comment. If you don’t see the Reels icon yet, you’ll have to be patient.

Reels have now become the main focus of Instagram. Mark Zuckerberg revealed in Meta‘s latest quarterly report that reels are now the platform’s biggest engagement drivers. He also said that they expect this to continue to grow and reels will be as important as stories already are. So you see, the competition with TikTok is far from over.
