Twitter copies TikTok

The Explore tab / Twitter For You page in the Twitter app could soon become the purest copy of the successful app TikTok. That’s because a new test for the Discover section of the short messaging service shows how content could be played out there in the future. In full-screen format on the one hand, and vertically swipeable on the other. Also, the layout and the “For You” and “Trending” options are reminiscent of TikTok.

A new test from Twitter shows how content could soon be played out in the Explore area. The layout is very reminiscent of TikTok’s For You page, but so are the “For You” and “Trending” options. The Twitter support account shared the test in a tweet, writing there that the new Explore experience should help discover the best content that’s hot right now.

Already in November this year, details of the test were noticed by users and shared on social networks. Now Twitter itself confirms the test. What’s particularly interesting is that Twitter even copied the name “For You” one-to-one. Users can swipe vertically through the content just like on TikTok. Due to the great success of TikTok, it is not surprising that other competitor apps copy the content presentation. It was similar with Snapchat and the Story format. This has been copied with great success by Instagram, where it has become one of the most important features for users.

Twitter also copied the story format, however, with little success, which is why they did away with it after a few months. Whether the TikTok format will be similarly unsuccessful on Twitter remains to be seen.
