Instagram CEO recently announced in an IG TV video that Instagram is no longer a photo sharing app. He announced that Instagram will specialize in four areas in the future.
The first will be Creator. Instagram wants to work more with Creatorn in the future to help you make a living. The second area will be video. Instagram, he said, is an app that users use to be entertained, according to his research. This is the direction they now want to take with their platform. To do this, they would like to focus particularly on the video sector. The third area Instagram will focus on is shopping. Here they want to offer more options and expand the e-commerce area. The fourth and final area will be messaging. The way of communication has changed a lot in the last 5 years. Instagram wants to create a whole new possibility in the field.
However, the CEO’s main focus is on video. Instagram is no longer a photo-sharing app. This statement represents a big change coming to the app. Because Instagram has been a photo-sharing app from the beginning. Through your filters, Explorepage and building Instagram profiles, they have become successful. Instagram was the app where photographers created their portfolios and users shared their private photos with their friends. It was an app that specialized in photo sharing since its inception.
The fact that Instagram is now taking this step will have been triggered primarily by competition from TikTok. On TikTok, users of the app are seeing an organic growth of followers that many users have long missed on Instagram. TikTok’s algorithm plays out users’ content so that many others can see it. The CEO explains in his video that, for example, posts from other users would now be displayed in the feed. This was previously only the case on the Explorepage. How the Explorepage, on which there are mainly photos, will change, he leaves open.
What does this news mean for us users now? And what should you do to succeed on Instagram in 2021? Focus on videos and especially Instagram reels. Instagram has been asking for more video content from its users since before the announcement. Many users report that they are growing organically with their accounts again since they started posting reels. Reels is Instagram’s answer to TikTok. Through reels, they want to keep users on the platform and make a special effort to play them out as well. So we get another chance from Instagram. Through videos, it is once again possible to grow on the platform. Videos will give you new visibility and reach. Photo content should no longer be your focus in 2021. Here, users have been reporting difficulties in terms of visibility and reach for several years now. Some users even talked about Instagram being death. And now that Instagram is going to focus on videos, it obviously makes little sense to continue posting photos.
