WhatsApp voice chat in groups

A closer look at the new feature

Find out how you can now use WhatsApp voice chat in groups here. To do this, the group must first fulfill certain criteria, which we explain in the video. We also look at two other WhatsApp innovations that will play into the hands of companies in the future. So it’s best to watch until the end to make sure you don’t miss anything.

Create WhatsApp channels

Our last update on setting up WhatsApp channels was more than enough for you. If you haven’t seen this yet, it is also linked again. But now there is another minor innovation that also shows the direction WhatsApp is taking. Initially, WhatsApp was more of a messenger for private use through and through. With WhatsApp Business, WhatsApp Channels and now the new group function, WhatsApp is increasingly catering to business customers who use the messenger in a commercial, corporate context.

Plan events for WhatsApp groups

This should make it easier to plan events via WhatsApp in the future. It will therefore be possible to create an event for which all information such as location, date, dress code, etc. will be made available to the entire group. The practical thing is that, if desired, each group member receives a notification 30 minutes before the event.

WhatsApp is becoming increasingly interesting for companies

In terms of e-commerce, weekly company meetings could now be planned, scheduled and held online if, for example, part of the team meets online. is in the home office. And all this within WhatsApp, which was otherwise only possible in Microsoft Teams and similar organization tools.
But that’s not the only new feature. Because WhatsApp groups within a small team of less than 10 people are very bearable. But what about groups of up to 200 people?

WhatsApp group mutes itself automatically

Whether WhatsApp should be the medium for this, with such a large number of members, we don’t want to judge at this point, but the developers behind the messenger are making sure that it will be more bearable from now on. Since the WhatsApp for Android beta update 2.22.24.15. there is now also automatic muting, as you can see from the screenshot. This means that above a certain group size and probably a certain frequency of text messages, the group is automatically muted.

WhatsApp voice chat in groups - the new feature

But WhatsApp also seems to remove another group hurdle. If a group call was started, it could only be viewed via the general “Calls” tab. However, you can now join the call directly via the group. Incidentally, this also works if you didn’t join the call at the beginning, but join later. This new voice chat function is reminiscent of conference services such as Discord or Teamspeak.

WhatsApp voice chat in groups - how it works

A silent notification is triggered and anyone who has time can join this conference. Previously, each person in the group was called as if it had been a normal call. WhatsApp is gradually rolling out this feature, but not for every group at the moment. The requirement is – it must be a group of at least 33 people, but apparently only 32 people can participate in the voice chat so far.

So it remains exciting to see how this will develop and what other features WhatsApp will roll out. But now it’s your turn. Have you already been able to use the new feature? If so, let us and the community know about your experiences in the comments.
