How to register my brand on Amazon

Amazon wants to become the most customer-friendly portal in the world. To protect customers from plagiarism and misuse of your brand, Amazon offers you to register your brand directly with Amazon. A simple registration with the trademark and patent office is often not enough to be safe from plagiarism on online marketplaces.

Here you will find the necessary information to register your brand on Amazon and take another step against product piracy. The prerequisite is that you already own a real, recognized brand. To do this, your trademark must first be registered with the Trademark and Patent Office. Trademarks registered and active in France, the United States, Mexico, Canada, Brazil, Australia, India, Japan, Singapore, Germany, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Spain, Italy, United Kingdom and the European Union are eligible.

The first thing you do is register an Amazon Seller or Vendor account. It may take a few days to set up and review the documents. If possible, you should have all the relevant documents concerning your company together before registering.

These are among others:

  • Sales tax ID
  • Proof that you own the company, e.g. by means of an extract from the commercial register
  • Proof of the correct address at which the manager can be reached (usually an electricity bill, not older than 6 months).

With these data you create the account. Right after you create it, Amazon will note what they are still missing to fully unlock your account. Once you have uploaded all the required documents, Amazon employees will review them and then activate the account. The whole process can take up to a week.

Why register a trademark on Amazon?

You can always present your brand correctly on Amazon. If you notice via a special search that someone is misrepresenting your brand or products, you can act quickly to have the representation optimized.

You have three improved and specialized brand search tools at your disposal:

  • Global Search: Allows you to search for your brand across multiple Amazon stores without having to switch windows.
  • Image search: If product listings use your images, you can use this to find them and see if your products and logos are being used correctly.
  • Collective search by ASINs: To quickly find and report potentially infringing content, you can run a special search by your ASINs. You can quickly report the results and the special support team will take care of it.

If your brand is registered on Amazon, it will be much more difficult for counterfeit manufacturers to release products under your brand name. Amazon has all the specific information, and as soon as someone tries to sell something under your brand name, Amazon steps in and first wants proof that this is indeed the correct brand.

You can also report counterfeit products faster and have them blocked by Amazon. You have better tools at your disposal and thus you shorten the time that the products are online. The sooner the counterfeit products disappear from the (online) market, the sooner you retain control over the trust in your brand.

Register more brands on Amazon

If you already have a trademark registered on Amazon, you can register a new trademark a little easier. Since all the information about your company is registered, all you need to do is click “Register a new brand” in your Brand Center and upload the specific documents for it. Amazon will then review the new application as usual and activate it if successful. After that, you can also check the other brand in your Brand Center and use all the available tools.
