Base prices on Amazon

In July and August, an outcry went through the merchant ranks on Amazon - for many ASINs, the base prices were suddenly missing in the frontend, although everything was stored in Seller Central.

The background was a change announced by Amazon in this article:
https://sellercentral.amazon.de/forums/

This states that basic prices are now mandatory for certain categories. The changeover resulted in the basic prices no longer being displayed for many ASINs. All articles must be reworked here.

During post-processing, errors occurred again:

  • Wrong languages in the table
  • Wrong units
  • No display in the frontend despite correct information in Seller Central

If you have items online on Amazon that are subject to the basic price regulation, then check the item settings. If the basic price is not displayed correctly even after filling in the above fields, you should contact Amazon’s merchant service immediately.

Wrong languages in the table

The specification “unit_count”, i.e. specifies the content or the number, is a free text field. It became problematic with the field “unit_count_type”, which is a dropdown menu and only allows the content that Amazon enters there. However, something went wrong with the assignment here and German dealers found the English details there. So “millilitre” instead of “milliliter”, “kilograms” instead of “kilogram”, etc.

This assignment also still seems to be the case, but this seems to be remediable by various means:

  1. Switching the Seller Central language to English and back to German.
  2. Let Amazon customer service know.

Wrong units

According to legal requirements, small packages under or equal to 250g, or ml can be indicated with a basic price in the unit g or ml. For larger packages, liters and kilograms are mandatory, i.e. l and kg. This sometimes seems not to be possible, in this case it often helps to deactivate the article (NOT delete it!) and then activate it again. The fields are then apparently re-read and are editable.

No display in the frontend

Even if all required data is entered correctly, it may still happen that the base price including the unit does not appear in the frontend. In this case, deactivating/reactivating should also help – otherwise, customer service must be contacted here as well.

Warning trap wrong basic prices

If the information is incorrect or missing, warnings are almost inevitable. The IDO warning association in particular is always targeting Amazon merchants, as in this case. It also doesn’t seem to matter if a technical error on Amazon prevents the display of the base price – if the item must have a base price when it is sold, the responsibility lies with the merchant. If the issue is not resolved, the item may not be sold online.
