How to find the right keywords in Amazon

If you decide to use Amazon PPC, i.e. advertising on Amazon, you will learn users’ search terms on Amazon with the help of match types.

Using the match types (keyword option) Exact, Phrase and Broad you can influence ad delivery to the buyers’ search terms. The match types should have an impact on your campaign structure.

How do users search on Amazon?

With the various keyword options, you can specify exactly which customer search queries your ads appear for.

  • Broad: Contains all keywords in any order and includes plurals, variants and similar keywords.
  • Phrase: Contains the exact phrase or sequence of keywords
  • Exact: Matches the keyword or sequence of keywords exactly

With all the positive keywords, however, don’t forget about the negative keywords. Of course, this is not necessary for a campaign with only “Exact” keywords.

For example, if you create a campaign about eBakery on Amazon, you could create 3 variants. You create an ad once with the exact keyword “eBakery”, followed by the one for the phrase keyword “eBakery” and the one for the broad keyword “eBakery” – however, within phrase and broad you can book the exact keyword “eBakery” as a negative keyword – this way all exact search queries will also be assigned to the exact keyword “eBakery”.
